Cooked here, every day.

Our nurseries have fully-equipped kitchens and qualified cooks. Children ready for solid food have nutritious meals, with menus that change seasonally. Ask your manager about dietary needs and the food charges or funded-hours arrangements that apply to your nursery.

Meals a day

Breakfast, a hot lunch and tea, as the session covers, plus morning and afternoon snacks.

Care

Food hygiene

Food preparation and hygiene procedures are set out in our food and nutrition policy.

Variety

Rotating menus

Our menus offer a variety of meals. Ask your nursery for the current menu.

Ask us

Extra for meals

Food and consumable arrangements depend on the nursery and effective date. See the funding page and confirm with your manager.

Allergies and diets

Tell us about allergies and dietary needs when registering, and whenever anything changes. For a known allergy, the manager works with you on an allergy care plan and risk assessment. Discuss dietary requirements with your nursery before your child starts.

Weaning

Talk to your nursery about the foods and textures your baby has tried, and agree the next steps together. Your nursery can explain how to supply breast milk or formula and how it is stored and prepared.

More than eating

Mealtimes are social occasions. Children are encouraged to help serve food, pour drinks and clear plates when developmentally appropriate.

Plymouth and Weymouth

At our Plymouth and Weymouth nurseries, government funding doesn't cover food, so meals, snacks and consumables come as the Bear Necessities package alongside funded hours. Details on the fees page.
